Learning Outcome 4 : Peer Review

My peer reviews have changed drastically in my opinion as we did more of them throughout our time in English Composition 110. At the beginning, I did not use I(dea), E(vidence), O(rganization), or L(ocal) to label my comments. I just commented where I thought was necessary. I also was not used to this type of peer editing. I had done it before, but not with requirements. Using these ideas can sometimes help me, the editor, to see what really needs to be done to the paper. Personally, I think I have always been good at identifying local things such as punctuation, word choice, spelling, or other things like that. I also think that I have done pretty well in the past with organization and structure of the paragraphs in my papers. I really expanded on my writing this semester using my opinion as well as using evidence and citing sources within my paper. Finding these things in someone else’s paper is generally easier to do than finding them in your own. This is why peer editing can be useful. I think on this particular peer’s paper, I did well on all of these focus areas. I tried my best to really dig into possible ideas and defiantly commented on some organizational and structural points. I also tried to keep my comments as positive as I can, while also critiquing it. Negative comments on papers never seem to help as they discourage the writer in my opinion.
