Standard 3 in the Maine Common Core Teaching Standard focuses on working with learners to create an environment that supports both individual and collaborative learning. By encouraging social interactions, active engagement, and self motivation students take charge of their own learning. I believe this artifact reflects this standard as I use a lot of group work and interaction between students in both lessons provided.
This artifact made me think about how I will integrate science into my classes, as science is not always a given. When creating these lessons, I thought deeper into how I could actually carry out my lesson plans, not just make them up for an assignment. This is also a tool that can be used in the future with students who do not know how to read a map or who do not know about earth’s features. I think these lesson plans could be used to reinforce learning for some core concepts.
